Nottingham is located in the county  of Nottinghamshire, England. There’s a very local controversy about how to pronounce the shire of Nottinghamshire and no one in Britain seems to agree on the pronunciation of their counties.

When did Robin Hood’s aventures started in Nottingham  ?
As Robin Hood, Young Smith from Alan Sillitoe’s Loneliness of the long distance runner lives in Nottingham. Indeed, in the legend, Robin Hood and his Merry Men lived in the Sherwood forest, 30 km from Nottingham, where  the vilain Sheriff of Nottingham tried to secure the roads from what he considered as thieves and outlaws. We all remember that from the Disney movie, don’t we ?
But, when did Robin Hood’s aventures as an outlaw – robbing the rich and giving to the poor- started ?

Watch The loneliness…

You don’t want to read The loneliness of the long distance runner, because – even if it’s a very short story that would still be reading –  but you wish to know the very unusual  story of young Smith.  To start with, that’s very lazy of you. Second, we, at Le book club , understand and support any kind of attempt to  open a book.
